Y Chakravarthy of Andhra Pradesh threw the SBI Life 5th National Amateur Chess Championship wide open with a win over CM Aditya Mittal in the penultimate round of the championship at Thakur College of Science & Commerce.

In a crucial encounter, CM Aditya Mittal, who at one stage was cruising at 7/7, lost the plot in the early middle game by losing two pawns however, he managed to salvage one back but was not able to find accurate continuation in the complex rook and pawn ending to lose out on move 72. The win propels Chakravarthy to top of the standings. Meanwhile, the overnight leader, Raahul V S and Omkar Kadav drew their game after 40 moves and now share the lead in a 3 way tie with Y Chakravarthy to set-up an interesting last round duel.
